Modern reflexology is based on an ancient form of therapy. There is evidence of some form of foot and hand therapy being practised in China as long ago as 2330 B.C. and also at the same time in Egypt, as depicted in the tomb of Ankmahor. The North American tribes of Indians are known to have practised a form of foot therapy for hundreds of years.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy, that is, it is used in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle to assist in the body’s rebalancing and recovery.
Reflexology is based on the Chinese principle that certain areas on the soles of your feet, hands, face, and ears – contain millions of nerve endings (Reflex Points) which correspond to other parts of the body. All systems and organs of the whole body are said to be mirrored or reflected in smaller peripheral areas. Reflexology works on stimulating these zones and reflex areas on the body that reflect the systems of the body. The aim is to dissolve any blockages causing ill-health by encouraging the free flow of vital energy and internal messaging through the body.
Reflexology is particularly useful for stress-related conditions as it helps eliminate negative effects of stress and stimulates the body to self-healing. Reflexology is a renewal and maintenance programme for assisting the body to maintain health and recovery.
It is not necessary to have a symptom to benefit from a reflexology treatment and it restores a natural state of wellbeing wellbeing.
